Better immersion in Quest 2 than Quest 3?

I have both Quest 2 and Quest 3. Lately I've had to fall back to the Quest 2 a couple of times, and I was very suprised to experience that my perceived immersion was a lot better on Q2 than I was used to. To try to describe the difference, the Q3 feels more like watching a video, while Q2 felt a lot more like i was actually present.

I had the same experience both for SexLikeReal videos, and watching cam girls. Tried both in browser and DeoVR app.

Anyone have an explanation for this? Is it only me, or do others see the same? Are there some settings in Q3 that I might have messed up or something like that?

I have not had time yet to swap between the headsets back and forth, or try to mess with settings. I will update when I find out more.

After swapping between the headsets, in the same scene, in this case SLR Original Sweaty Flexible Desperate, I notice significant more immersion/realism in Q2 compared to Q3. I struggle to put my finger on what the difference actually is. I tried adjusting PID, Depth and FOV. It had some impact, but not enough. It seems the Q2 is brighter. Perhaps that is the difference?

jokkmokkmedsokk not sure as no longer have a quest 2, but for me the better lenses, resolution and above all passthrough make quest 3 far superior. The next level of immersion from color passthrough makes me unable to go back to watching vr in non passthrough

I don't know. When i upgrade to quest 3 i feel better quality. But i don't have my quest 2 anymore to see if it's feel less immersive.

I use both on the regular, in different locations, and experience similar "immersion". Biggest difference is obviously the passthrough, on the Q2 I just turn it off. Solid color is better than that b&w fuzz. Also a slightly better image quality, wider FOV, and better audio in the Q3 make it the superior headset for me.

Yes, I think you are right. I no longer have my Quest 2. I use my pico 4 for regular VR videos and my Quest 3 for passthrough videos. I wonder if what you are describing is because of the fresnel lenses on the Q2, if that’s the case the Quest 3s may be a better experience for porn than the Q3.

People saying Quest 2 are out of their damn minds. Quest 3 has higher resolution, lower screen door effect, higher field of view, extremely better lenses (clarity all the way to the edges, while edges are a blurry mess on Quest 2), much better sweet spot, it's smaller, lighter, and the mass is closer to your face (making it feel even lighter), extremely better passthrough, the strap and facial interface are worse on the Quest 2. And I'm sure plenty of points beyond that. Anyone saying Quest 2 over Quest 3, check yourselves into a mental institution.

And yes, I have both and did back and forth comparisons and wanted to throw the Quest 2 in the trash with how obsolete it looked compared to the Quest 3.

I agree that resolution etc is way better on Q3, but when a model comes up to my face on Q2 my mind expects to be able to smell them. I don't get the same experience on Q3. It's like my mind to a higher degree is tricked into believing what I see is real on Q2, despite the obvious image quality differences.

I did search a bit around, and I'm wondering if less Binocular Overlap on Q3 compared to Q2 is the difference. Seems to fit well with my impression that what I'm experiencing is related to depth and perceived realism.

I'm considering buying a Pico 4 ultra to get around this. Does anyone have experience with both Quest 3 and Pico 4 ultra for watching VR porn. If so, what do you think is best?

Have you personalized your Quest 3's physical adjustments and settings? I didn't pay attention if it was covered in a guide on purchase, but I Googled some tutorials on setting it up for my personal vision and it made a world of difference.

If you have ruled out wrong IPD settings on you Q3, then a possible explanation is the higher binocular overlap on the quest 2, which is 90 degrees vs 80 degrees on the Q3. If this is the case then the Pico 4 should even work better for you, since it even has higher overlap (104 degrees).

So I actually purchased a Pico 4 Ultra...

First, it's obvious something was wrong with the colors on Quest 3. I had that impression when comparing to Q2 as well, but became a lot clearer compared to Pico 4 Ultra. On the Q3 i mispressed and found the setting for color space on accident. This was set to rec709. When i changed it to "unmanaged" this helped a lot

But the feeling of depth as a lot better on Pico. Again using scene Sweaty Flexible Desperate for comparison, at about 8:20 when the girls come all up to my face, my heart actually beats noticeably faster when watching in Pico. Nikki moves quite fast forward, and I almost flinch on Pico. That feeling I don't get with Quest 3.

So yeah, seems binocular overlap was the main part of why i had a partially better experience with Quest 2 than Quest 3. And although I have barely had the time to test Pico 4 ultra, for now it seems like a clear winner. I'll try to update after some more use.

"Binocular overlap is actually detrimental to hFOV, but that extra 6 degrees of hFOV the Quest 3 has, comes at the expense of diabolical depth perception for about a metre. Actually worse than the Quest 2.

The Pico 4 Ultra actually has better vFOV."

So it sounds like maybe that's what you're running into

It's so strange, I can't really see the difference, but I feel the difference very clearly. It depends on the scene, but especially at close proximity, for example sitting cowgirl, kissing or licking, the difference is palpable. My mouth actually start to water when a nice boob get close enough for kissing.

For porn Pico 4 Ultra is a whole different experience compared to Meta Quest 3. At least for me. Going back to Quest 3 after using Pico a few times feels "bland". Not engaging.

Pico 4 still have some drawbacks worth mentioning:

A lot slower to open videos and buffering. At least in DeoVR, and partially in Stripchat. I'm used to it beeing almost immidiate (less than 1s), but with Pico it's 2-5 seconds.
Playing Dezyred games did not work very well at all, game froze completely all the time and had to go back to Dezyred menu to exit and re-enter the game.
Lens glare is a bit annoying while browsing. Luckily I don't notice this while watching VR videos.
The motorized IDP ajustment sometimes mess up my manually set IPD.

BangBang There is no Heresphere app for Pico, so test was using DeoVR.

It's due to the binocular overlap. I had the quest 2, quest3, pico 4 and now pico 4 ultra.
