Old thread, but this issue remains frustrating enough that I wanted to offer my two cents in hopes of finding a path forward.
Currently, we are in a lose-lose situation. VRE is losing revenue, users are losing access to the high-quality "hardcore" content we want, and by extension, SLR is losing too.
The fundamental issue appears to be that SLR’s compensation model does not incentivize creators to prioritize what is best for the user. I would posit a few key points:
- Users don't want duplicated, sliced content cut into multiple videos
- VRE should not be financially incentivized to produce 2 edits of the same shoot with a release delay over a single high-quality, long-form video.
- The compensation for a one-hour video should be comparable to that of two 20-30 minute "shorts" typically published by other creators.
The solution I would propose is for SLR to pay VRE for a single, high-quality long-form video at a rate comparable to what they previously earned for two separate edits.
While it may seem like SLR is paying more per unit of content, VRE’s scripts and production quality have earned them a tier of loyalty that few other creators on this platform can match. The engagement in this thread is proof of that value. Personally, I find VRE’s slow-paced scripts offer a unique experience that isn't replicated elsewhere on the site. It's almost exclusively what I watch these days.
If SLR adjusts the payment structure to treat these high-effort long-form videos appropriately, we can return to a world where users enjoy VRE’s best work. Sadly, until an agreement is worked out, we remain in this negative-sum game where the content decays and the users are ultimately punished.
Thanks to the SLR team for listening—I hope we can resolve this situation somehow!
