harigeharry Agreed that SLR does experiment a lot and a lot of good does come out of it. Not denying that.
What we wish for is consistency and gradual test releases which don't brick their current workflow.
Take image quality for example. SLRO has nailed it, yet it's never consistent. A few scenes drop with good focus for closeups, we all are happy. And then abruptly something throws this out of whack and we have a whole load of scenes which have serious focus issues. (I'm not even talking of the BMURSA closeup focus issues.)
Same with the color correction. Few scenes have decent colors and then it's a whole load of scenes with biege/orange/brown/pale tinted colors. VRSpy does do a good job with colors, but they too are highly affected when slro messes color correction like here.
And again with the camera distance. It starts off good and then we have multiple releases with a giraffe-esque distance for close-up mish or lean in cowgirl.
One good read through the comment section shows that these issues are quite frequent.
Aren't there multiple ways to solve this. Have defined rules for camera distances, color correction, and more. When introducing new features or changes, do it on a small section of a scene and take feedback. Maybe keep it on SLR labs. Once approvals cross a threshold, gradually introduce it to maybe 1 scene per week. Not for all scenes at once. Look for feedback and go on from there. Atleast when something does go wrong, the blast radius is contained.
I know this can be hard to manage, but that's how new features are supposed to be introduced.
I have to disagree though regarding other studios. Japanese studios are highly consistent with minimal of these issues.
LethalhardcoreVR has resolved their closeup focus issues and again are consistent with it.
We have BraindanceVR working on something almost none in the industry is trying.
StripzVR is consistently releasing BMURSA scenes on its Babelicious website and their regular site too while keeping in mind it's limitations.
VRSun has been consistent with color correction and image quality all this time.
And there's more such studios.
Again, it's all about consitency and staggered release of new/test features.
Lets not test on production systems. Is that too big an ask?
