35x SLR Originals scenes were uploaded and re-uploaded in 10-bit getting through processing pipeline.

We’ve started rolling out higher bitrate streaming across all new scenes.
From now on, new releases are encoded with a ₆₅% higher bitrate cap. It might take the next few days to start getting them live.

For clean indoor scenes with limited background movement, the difference may be subtle. Let me know if you notice cleaner edges in outdoors and motion-heavy scenes, hair detail, etc.

We’re currently evaluating whether this should apply only to 8K or also scale proportionally across lower resolutions (I expect algorithms will know to allocate bitrate where it matters most).

Get ready for higher bandwidth requirements as well.

Let us know what you see on your setup.

The skin tends to be one of the first "victims" of compression, hopefully there will be a way to allocate those precious bits towards the skin. 🙂

This was badly needed. I've been downloading HBR content just because it looks substantially better (on Galaxy XR and AVP) than streaming from the website. Hopefully that wont be needed anymore, will check it out.

LickLock Segmentation of girl in the scene is a solved problem. When watching VR, model's body is the highest priority especially her face. We generally don't care if the background has compression artifacts but compromises on girls facial features is a no go. Basically, we don't want facial skin texture, pores, freckles, imperfections to get hidden with compression artifacts.

Shouldn't there exist a compression algo which allocates more bits to the girl, especially her face while not caring of background that much.

Anyhoo, 10 bit seems to be the right direction. Good going SLR.

The streaming gets laggy though.

doublevr I just watched the Molly scene and this is the first SLRO in a while that I can remember looking good for me. If there were no other differences with that scene other than the 10-bit it seems like that really was it. The visuals still look a little artificial to me for some reason but overall I can tolerate it since there's no more super washed/whited out colors.

Thank you so much, will there be processing of previous scenes with the 10-bit? There are many I want to love but just couldn't due to what I mentioned above.

And for what it's worth, playback was smooth for me. No lag or stutters

SLRO scenes 8-bit used to have streaming bitrates of 30, 10-bit now has 34. That's not 67 % increase btw. Watching +4 Mbps 10-bit on a 8-bit headset like Q3, I don't expect to see a striking leap in quality.

Some studios have been overcompressed far beyond the streaming cap for whatever reason. Now these scenes are 10-bit 34 instead of 8-bit 20 Mbps. Obviously, that's an overdue improvement.

No issues noticed regarding streaming. Wouldn't expect any issues with streaming 34 Mbps on my end, the CDN at my location doesn't seem to have issues delivering this either.

doublevr I can't quite put my finger on it, but when I look at scenes today on a desktop browser, the colors do seem better.
Maybe it's the lower artifacts and better fidelity from the bitrate increase. Maybe the changes just took time to propagate to a CDN near me.
Or it could just be placebo.

new releases are encoded with a 65% higher bitrate cap - Get ready for higher bandwidth requirements

This video has the high bitrate tag. HEVC studio master is being compressed from 250 Mbps to 13 Mbps for the HEVC Max Res 8K. This is rather -65% and not high bitrate.

doublevr

SchnuppiLilac that's how algorithms work. As long as you are happy about quality everything is great.

SchnuppiLilac

We will raise your salary. Instead of $100,000, you can look forward to $50,000 per year from now on. That's how algorithms work. - You are right, I'm way too stupid to understand algorithms.

doublevr

SchnuppiLilac great to see you making progress. Not bad at all

doublevr Where is the high bitrate files? All I see is the same old compressed videos that you have for streaming.
