Why are the videos not 4k?

Got a meta quest 3 a month ago. It wasnt actually to watch porn on it. Somebody told me about it and the SLR website. My god its amazing! I particularly love the cam girls. Its like you are right there next to them. I wanted to ask about the video quality of the videos. They are advertised as 4k quality. However whilst they are still amazing, they dont seem to be 4k and are actually quite clowdy. Is this something to do with the quest 3 resolution? I though the quest 3 was supposed to have a 4k resolution?

4k is not high quality in VR... On a Quest 3 you want to watch videos with 8k quality.

The cam girls are using a lot of different cameras and have different streaming quality settings. Some of them have good cameras with high resoulation that will look very good on a Quest 3. But a lot of the streamers also have lower quaility cameras or stream with low bitrate.

herauer even if I toggle on the 8k only videos, the videos that appear dont even look like 1080p nevermind 8k!

Have you tried changing the streaming quality in deoVR? Sounds like you are not streaming the highest quality.

If 'don't even look like 1080p' means doesn't look like 1080p on a flat display: This is a limitation of VR where there is a field of view like three times wider than that of a living room TV. So even if VR videos are 8K and have more pixels, these pixels are spread much thinner. A typical 4K TV setup has an FOV of 30-40°, resulting in something like 50-70 pixels per degree. On a Q3, the FOV is 100-110°, so only like 20-25 PPD in the center. Human vision reference is 60 PPD. And that's basically why 8K on a VR headset may look less crisp than 1080p on your phone.

If you want 4k quality, buy either a Galaxy XR or the upcoming Pimax Dream Air (regular one, not the SE), which seems to have the same panels as the Galaxy XR. While still not equal as 4k on your monitor, it's pretty damn close! No more pixels for sure, just super sharp image like you on your monitor, maybe slightly less crisp, but again, really close.

Are you talking about VR videos or 2D?

For VR videos you want to watch minimum 6K quality, preferred 8K

Keep in mind, if a video is advertised as 8K that doesn't mean it is 100% going to be very good quality, some studios will upscale and it'll look like ass. Also camera distance & lighting matters a lot here

For live cams, 6K is currently the max quality. Lighting makes a huge difference

(I think, unless something changed) SLR Originals are always going to be 8K max quality if you want something to compare to. Also keep an eye on when a video was uploaded, camera technology progresses as well as upscaling advances
