Does downloading a video remove the alpha mask?

No. the Alpha mask is just part of the video. You can see it if you open the video on your PC, in the corners and in the middle (top and bottom) you'll see the 6 pieces of the mask.

Keep in mind though that AI PT videos dont have an alpha mask, only 'real' PT videos have one.

Thank you for the response, so if a video using the AI pass through it won't work when the video is downloaded?

I'm guessing this is local only (downloaded to headset) as i just tried this via DNLA Plex server and couldn't get the Ai Passthrough option to appear in DeoVR, which is fine as i never even knew this was an option

When you download an AI PT video, you'll only download the video, not the Chroma mask. It could be that DeoVR tries to match the filename against the SLR server and then use the mask from the server, like @Rakly3 seems to say, haven't seen that before though. Either way, it most definitely won't work with any other videoplayer for sure.

So in resume, there are 2 type of mask: Alphamask, which is baked into the video, this is 'true' AI. And then there's AI PT, which uses an external "chromakey" mask, it's not baked into the video itself and you need access to the mask in order to have PT.

I don't know for sure with DLNA/Plex if Alpha mask actually works, though pure technically it could be possible.

The Chroma Key while streaming it probably is just getting some json data from the server which colors to use as key(s). These are not embedded in the video. But you can set it manually.
The alpha masks are embedded in the video files.

Rakly3 I vaguely remember that subtitles .srt files also had issues over DNLA so just assumed it was a similar issue with Ai Masks and due to Ai subtitles getting released gave up trying.

Again not an issue as i appreciate the Ai Passthrough as i think it is incredible tech, i think once the hardware (headsets) has a better / faster processor with updated interations then this will unleash it's true potential and options for blending / feathering in software, as you can already see the hardware stuggling to keep up.
