Redhulk50 Can't help you there, I'm afraid - I only use a VPN on my Windows machines, and that's primarily to bypass geo-restrictions on content. I'm not bothered about hiding my porn use - if the government desperately wants to know what I like to watch, they can have at it. On odd occasions I do want to browse as anonymously as I can (without going the full nine yards and using TOR), but that's always on a PC.
As intrusive and infuriating as I find the AV thing, it's not really about not giving away my identity for me. I'm sure MI5 etc already have a good profile of what I do online, on clearnet at least, and if they don't they can buy it from Palantir. I'm not going to upload real ID like a passport to a 3rd party, because identity fraud is a real thing, but I'll do selfie-ID, because my face linked to my real name is already on the internet and it's not enough to impersonate me.
If (more likely when) uk.gov starts mandating the use of our new and not-at-all-authoritarian Digital ID system for all AV - removing the ability to selfie-ID - and every other damn thing you do online (and you know they will because, like many other governments I could mention, they're rapidly going full fascist), then I'll be on a VPN for literally everything and I'll install a VPN proxy on my LAN to divert all my devices via it, probably with a private VPS endpoint of my own. Because fuck them.
ttv34 This is such a stupid move from UK, not just for porn.
It absolutely is, but you should see it in the context that all the other ex-liberal democracies are doing the same thing. The UK version of AV is (for now) considerably better than that of some US states. The whole world is going to shit, it's not just us. Although in some ways the UK is going to shit faster than many.
