Definitely need this on the Galaxy XR. Bottom line is this headset can really feature your product in a way that only the AVP can match right now. I understand you can’t support every headset, but Samsung/Google are obviously big time companies that have the resources to compete with Apple and Meta. While I don’t have an AVP, most users that do say the display on the GXR is better. The AVP is typically said to have better software, and the chip is certainly better, but the software will get better on the GXR. Regarding the chip, an app that optimizes efficiency is what we need!
As an owner of the GXR, I can attest that the clarity of the downloaded SLRO videos is amazing on this headset, much better than using the hub (although the hub still looks great compared to the quest). The problem is I have to download it, and then the fisheye190 doesn’t format appropriately with current players. It’s my impression that you guys prefer users to stream instead of download. Even if a new player comes out that formats fisheye190 appropriately, I’m now forced to download it. The efficiency, stability, and functionality all would be better with the app as well.
Regarding the resources to port this to the GXR, I don’t see how it would be that difficult. I’m not a developer, nor do I know anything about the mechanics of the app, but everything I see points to it being relatively easy compared to the other systems (especially the AVP, which seems like a nightmare to support). The hardware is open source and built on the same android system as Meta. In fact, @harigeharry built a usable app in his off time within a few weeks (although it doesn’t support streaming yet). He is just working through the process of listing it in the google store.
Anyway, I hope you come to your senses and support the GXR. It looks like so many people are asking for it. If it’s the DEOVR team that would be the ones doing it, please advocate for us.
