App for Samsung XR headset?

bboy7895

have you guys try using deovr on pcvr?

Reeses

bboy7895 I wished I could. But unfortunately my intel nuc 15 doesn't seem to have enough guts to run pcvr. Atleast it won't run steam or meta

blaze466

bboy7895 I just got my pc up and running. I plan to try it out next week sometime.

blaze466 please let me know bro

GalaxyXR support is now live — we’ve fixed all major bugs, and the hub is fully functional on the new headset. 4K video and PT are also available.
There’s still room for improvement: the headset currently runs only at 72fps and has some Bluetooth issues. Hopefully these will be resolved in upcoming firmware updates — the device still feels a bit raw.

SchnuppiLilac

WebXRChief So 4K is the max. resolution possible but this is not mentioned under limitations/room for improvement? Is 4K an inherent limit of this headset?

WebXRChief

SchnuppiLilac Yes — 8K is the hardware limit of the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen2, so per-eye 4K is the maximum practical resolution for this headset.

SchnuppiLilac

WebXRChief Ah okay, so it's "8K" after all. In VR porn, when I read 4K, I expect it's about 2160p videos.

so on browser work fine xr now? but lets hope also for deovr app! i see is only avaivle in usa! lets hope for europe

WebXRChief I am using Chrome on my Galaxy XR and I still cannot get it to work on the slr website. I click on a video and then the "view in VR" button and it still shows the message to open it in DeoVr or meta browser. Is there something I need do first? This is exciting news and I would love to get it working with my headset.

SchnuppiLilac Figured it out just after posting. Thanks! However my passthrough is see through somewhat. Looks incredible overall.

WebXRChief nm, I figured out I needed to go to the hub url. Passthrough however is showing lights in general background through the scene. The images look ghostly so to speak where a lamp will show right through them for instance. Quality otherwise is insanely good. It's soooo much better than the Galaxy Viewer and Virtual Desktop as well. Usability is also way better.

Awesome timing, received my XR today!! Still figuring things out, image quality seems similar to the AVP, although it's a lot more messing around with the headset to get the lenses in the right position and angle. That's all easier with the AVP. Also the comfort from the AVP is a lot better (although heavier). However it's awesome to finally have PT working via the web player!!

harigeharry

Compared to the AVP, the XR definitely feels as bit less premium. Also I don't like the comfort too much, but I'm sure that varies between users. I can't wait for after market head straps for sure. Actually as of now its feels like THE biggest downside of this headset. I'm really not sure how Samsung couldn't do this a bit better. To get the best image quality and FoV out of this thing, I need to press the lenses as close to my eyes as possible, but it then rests on my nose which hurts. Hopefully a good after market strap will be released to solve that.

That being said ... There's no doubt in my mind: the XR is THE best headset for porn!! The image quality is just incredible, might even be a tad better than the AVP, I think the colors pop just a little bit more. It's a bit more difficult to get the headset in the right spot, but damn, once it is, it's frikking good! And that for half the price of a new AVP, haha, it's an easy win.

Only downside right now is of course that there's currently no AI PT on SLR. Hopefully DeoVR isn't too far away. But the fact that you have native PT just via the web browser, is such an advantage over the AVP!

harigeharry I use a 2” wide Velcro strap that I ordered off Amazon. I thread it through the forehead pad and wrap the other end around the backend. It makes significantly more bearable. Still will probably get a better third party if/when one comes out. But this works for now.

The weird transparency issue with the passthrough overlay image went away. Now that it's gone, I kind it wish if was an option. It enhances the immersion because if blends the image with the overall lighting of your room. It has a similar effect to turning down both contrast and brightness, which I have always tweaked with passthrough to offset the lighting of the overlay image with that of that passthrough background. So, a way to set the opacity of the overlay image only would be a great feature.

The background that's edited out would always stay completely invisible. I'm thinking this was a glitch with the area boundary, but now I can't reproduce it.

So, SLR if you see this, please add a way to set the transparency of the overlay image only in the default transparency mode. I see there is an opacity option in the color picker transparency mode but that doesn't have the same effect and also affects the background part of the passthrough which I would never want visible. This is probably confusing, but the effect I originally got was similar to quest 3 when you would start to leave the boundary and after seeing if, I realize it was very immersive having that slight transparency to improve blending with my room.

Also, please remember settings on a per video basis like deovr and make a way to put the play controls up higher. The hand tracking and trying to point down low enough if prone is very difficult and inconsistent on this headset. The hand tracking on this headset is so terrible. The image however is sooo good.

Yeah that fucking halo strap man. Wish it had a vision pro m5 strap. Would have been a buy for me then.

If anyone's interested, my first comparison of the XP to my AVP:

1) Like said, comfort on the AVP is way better. I already know I'm going to mod the strap of the XR, if needed I'm just going to cut off that whole facial interface (the part that rests on the forehead) and replace it with a custom strap
2) Most importantely for porn: the image quality is slightly better on the XR, everything just feels a tad sharper and colors just pop a bit more. These panels are simply gorgeous!
3) Fov: horizontal FoV on the AVP is substantial bigger (I'm using it without lightseal to get the panels close to my eyes). I've read it's about 110 degrees horizontally for the XR, which seems about right, while I get 120 on my AVP. Vertical FoV is bigger on the XR though, also by a substantial amount. The vertical FoV on the AVP always feels a bit limited.
4) Eye tracking currently just really sucks on the XR, to the point that I've just turned it off. They really need to improve it.
5) The whole user interface from the AVP is miles ahead. It pretty much feels like the first iphone UI vs the first Samsung phone UI. And this is coming from somebody who always has been a Samsung user.
6) The passthrough cams on the the AVP are slightly better, I can read my monitor from about 1 meter distance with my AVP, while it's difficult with the XR.

But the fact that the XR is really an 'open' headset, where you can just watch passthrough porn without problems, while Apple really tries hard to lock us out, is a huge difference. Even if the headsets would cost the same, I still would take the XR over the AVP for porn. For (AR) productivity I'd take the AVP. Samsung just really needs to invest in a better UI and eyetracking.

IMHO everyone here on SLR should get the XR, if they can afford it. It's just the best there currently is for porn.

EDIT I just compared the specs, the XR has 29 milion pixels, the AVP 'only' has 23 milion pixels. So I'm not crazy 🙂 The image indeed is really a bit sharper. Also the color gamut is higher (92% vs 95%) which indeed also is noticable. These panels are just really gorgeous, really incredible image quality. Can't wait to have a good app to play downloaded HBR quality! Hopefully deoVR will hurry up 🙂

harigeharry thanks for the detailed comparison!

While I can't compare it to the AVP, I can compair it to the quest 3. And just in resolution, clarity, definitely etc etc, no comparison, XR wins by a land slide.

I do agree with you though harigeharry, the current headgear sucks... it does feel like it's too far away from the eyes, and I get light bloom from the ambient lighting through the shields. So it needs a tighter or better fitting light seal for sure, and as you say the forehead rest needs some aftermarket mods to bring the lenses closer to the eye. BUT, still way way way more potential than the Q3.

But, I'll not hang up my q3 until an actual deovr app is available, and I get some controllers.
