Reeses tmynx man how are you AI upscalling vr porn? I tried topaz AI on some Rachel Starr NA scenes. Took about a week to do one video, and came out looking worse.

Haha man I hate those studios that nowadays release "re-mastered" originals, like naughtyamerica or milfvr, etc. In most cases they look maybe slightly better but still way worse than recently shot content. I stopped even caring about those 'remastered' originals, since they always left me disappointed.

(ai) upscalling just is not a thing. At least not yet. Maybe one day it will become good enough. But that will probably be the day that we don't even need originals anymore, just AI.

harigeharry with very few exceptions you are correct about not being great "remastered" videos.
The wankzvr riley steele sceen and a few of the rachel starr NA scenes are decently better.

But you really have to be into THAT performer, and them not have NEW content to really gaf about it.

harigeharry a lot of remasters are bad yes, but GOD DAMN Badoinks ones are incredible. They truely go many years forward in time, and have some top tier banger scenes ‘reincarnated’

harigeharry because I have one and it can't even play 12k (the vr banger ones). Also I have a 4090 and that can't play it either (without being unwatchably choppy). And I've done quite a bit of research on the subject.

dolphin7559 Nah the chipset spec doesnt define video resolution limits. I think it's more a tradeoff between bitrate, refresh rate, resolution and the compression algo. Keep in mind that headsets are not playing the vid 1:1 resolution-wise. The vid is merely an input to the algo that creates a per-eye image for your headset (the 'composer').

EDIT2 Nah when playing the 12k, it just flips back to 8k. I think they just removed the 12k completely from their website. Too bad, should have downloaded it back then

If the chipset specs say that it can play HEVC at 8K 60fps maximum, that's not necessarily the absolutely limit, but it's always pretty close to it. You certainly wouldn't be able to play HEVC 12K or 16K on an XR2 gen2 that says 8K max. If it were possible they would advertise that playback resolution.

Yes, they are. If a 16K video is being played on a 8K headset (4K resolution per eye), the headset still has to decode the full 16K image.

harigeharry the 12k didn’t work on any hardware. The 10K did, but the difference wasn’t even noticeable.

Some other guy hit the nail on the head, it’s not all about resolutions. Wankz 7k looks infinitely better than a load of 8k studios. VRBangers 6k today looks better than their 8k years ago.

Hmm an AI answer I found says that the decoder only does 8k. Even on the newer XR2+. That would indeed be a huger bummer. Then again, it says the same thing for apple's M5. And that's not true.

It is possible that that AVP app's engine, does something smart, like a combination of hardware and software decoding. Or maybe the chip actually is way faster than those specs that I found.. Not sure what's going on. It's confusing for sure.

Honestly I have no idea how their tech works. I only know that it looks simply amazing on the AVP, far better than anything else I've seen.

AVP uses MV HEVC for their spatial video under the hood (of course they pretend they thought of it and call it something else lol). It's a format specially designed to reduce bandwidth by making use of the similar data between the left and right eye of a VR video allowing for lower bitrates at the same quality. Not sure if this effects the maximum playable resolution though. MV HEVC would have been much better for VR then AV1 if Quest had supported it but alas. RTX 5000 already does though.

Would be curious to see a AVP user report on what the maximum decodable resolution actually is.

So I tried the 10.1 android apk, no dice... it opens up like Google cardboard did back in those days on a smart phone vr.

Same with the skybox android APK.

blaze466 yeah that was an old deoVR for samsung GearVR that I tried out. And tried out an old skybox for Samsung GearVR too. Of course both those programs were for smartphone VR, not headset VR, so makes since that it thinks its one display not two displays that need the spatial video split up....

I really hadn't assumed samsung/Google play wouldn't have a single player for 3d videos when I swiped my card on $2k... I figured I would get to watch some of my 6TB of saved VR and just run the scripts on mfp until deovr got us an app...

I am a little disappointed, not going to lie. Like youtube vr app, yeah ok im impressed with the headset, but literally the only thing I use a VR for is to avoid tinder 🤣

dolphin7559 We had AVP support via the web player pretty quickly. So I'm hoping it will the the same for the web player for the XR.

Reeses Educated guess. They would have only just received a headset and even if they prioritized the development over everything else it would still take time to get it working.

Feeling annoyed i cant have it as i live in the UK however as there is no Deovr or heresphere just as well. SLR should give an eta for the player hopefully.

dolphin7559 I still wonder how much work the port would really be, since the Quest 3 also runs Android. Obviously a different version but still.
