  • Videos look weird on the latest (5.13.3.S) PICO 4 firmware?

Hey guys! Any PICO 4 users here? Is it me or all videos look weirdly stretched horizontally as if there was something wrong with the depth after the firmware update to v5.13.3.S? The browser and other UI stuff also look wider. I swear it wasn't like that before the update.

Any way to fall back to the previous version? Factory reset would get me way back to super old versions, don't want that... That would also delete DeoVR and my second question is about it - am I doing something wrong or DeoVR is no longer available on PICO Store? Like what if I delete it, how to install it again? Is there offiicial APK?

puregreen Hello, thank you for the details. I have sent a report to the team and will get back to you once I have an update 🙏

puregreen DeoVR should still be available on the PICO 4 store for firmware version v5.13.3.S.
Make sure to check the Store directly rather than the Library after uninstalling it. I made the same mistake, assuming it would appear in the Library like on the Meta Quest system, where uninstalled apps are shown as grayed out and still installable from there.
If you don’t see it right away, try searching for it manually in the Store, with "DeoVR" as the search keyword.

puregreen Regarding the anomaly you reported, where the video appears horizontally stretched and the UI elements seem wider after updating your PICO 4 firmware to version v5.13.3.S, I haven’t been able to reproduce the issue on my PICO 4 device running the same firmware. Everything appears to be functioning correctly on my end.
Could you try reinstalling DeoVR from the Store, as mentioned earlier, and let me know if the issue persists?

damson so all the videos look exactly as they supposed to look to your eye?

I tried factory reset but apparently that doesnt reset firmware so I guess I'm stuck with v5.13.3.S... tried to reinstall DeoVR but everything looks the same :/

I mean, it's not only DeoVR, for example the default browser app seems to be wider than before the update....

am I the only one? 🙂 anybody?

puregreen Sorry to hear that you're still experiencing the stretched view anomaly after reinstalling. I tested on my PICO 4 running firmware version V5.13.3.S, and everything appears to be looking correctly on my end.
Since you mentioned that the issue also appears in the default PICO browser, I suspect that the firmware installed on your device may be faulty or incomplete. I’ve searched online to see if others have reported a similar issue, but unfortunately, I haven’t found any matching cases so far. Can you share a screenshot of the stretched view that you are facing?
You might also want to ask around on PICO's official forum -> https://community.picoxr.com/moments
or their better visibility Reddit channel -> https://www.reddit.com/r/PicoXR/

It’s unfortunate that PICO devices don’t allow users to easily roll back to older firmware versions, due to their strict downgrade protection policy. Hopefully, a new firmware update will be released soon to address the current issues. In the meantime, the following site has proven to be a valuable resource for tracking and archiving all PICO firmware versions as they become available: https://owomushi.com/Pico-4-Archive/

I asked the same question on owomushi's Discord channel and one guy confirmed that the browser does look different (concave) compared to the previous version of firmware. But that's all I got at this point, nobody seem to care to even reply.

I asked the official PICO support actually but they said "the update shouldn't interfere with what you are experiencing". Well, that doesn't help either. Even though there's a possibility I never noticed it was always like that I still think something changed. I just can't confirm that because they don't allow to roll back to older versions indeed. The only way is to ask someone with an older version I guess.

Got some interesting follow up from the PICO support. Now they are saying what I'm experiencing could be "normal alterations due to the new update". So something apparently changed. They don't want to provide any further details tho "due to policies". BUT what I thought, maybe since you're developers, they can give you some extra info, guys? At least it's worth asking I think.

I think it might have to do something with the "Panoramic screen mode". I do NOT have this mode on, yet it still feels like it is.

This website says this for example:

"This feature is still under development, so there is a possibility that the display may be distorted or battery consumption may increase."
        ...
"Unlike PICO 4 Ultra, windows cannot be freely positioned with depth, they must be placed on the panoramic workspace, resulting in curved windows."

It probably doesn't distort anything on the Ultra version, but I suppose PICO devs just adapted this feature incorrectly to the regular version of PICO 4...

          5 days later

puregreen At this time, we have not received similar reports from other users regarding this issue.
As confirmed by Pico support, the changes appear to be the result of a recent system update, which limits our ability to address the problem directly at this stage.
However, if development resources allow, we will make an effort to investigate the matter further.

Maybe you have a backup copy from any older firmware version? A comparison with the latest version would help the investigation a lot.

I'm on this version too but have no issues with videos or UI being stretched..
