renstimpy11 Hey, thanks! When creating ‘The Special EP 4: Cowgirl’ PMV, my PC suffered more than ever before in its existence. 😃 Because I worked intensively with effects for the first time. But the result was worth it and I learned a lot.
To answer your questions, in short: technical limitations, a lack of VR editing tools and probably my limited know-how.
The answer is easy when it comes to sound, as I deliberately decided to use only one ear. Unfortunately, I don't have separate audio tracks, and you could hear Lana in the background, so the sound no longer seemed separate when I mirrored it, which is why I decided against it in this case.
A quick warning: I don't know anything about VR cameras and the technical terms, so I apologise in advance if I don't use the technically correct terms in the following sentences.
Mixing different scenes together can be a nightmare, as very few scenes are shot with exactly the same camera settings (distance, angle, resolution etc.). This can lead to chaos when mixing them together. As a result, the ‘clone effect’ can look very unnatural. For example, the person suddenly no longer touches the bed and instead floats above it or sinks too deep into the mattress or is too far away, and so on. In a 2D video, this could easily be adjusted with x and y coordinates. But in VR, you have depth and curvature, so if you try to reposition objects in a VR video without simultaneously correcting for curvature, the image quickly becomes distorted. It's not impossible, but it requires a lot more preparation, which logically takes time. And then you come to the question of efficiency: is it worth the effort or not? Personally, I love the effect and its impact, but I try to make it as easy as possible for myself by mostly sticking to the same scene. However, believe me, I often check to see if I can find something suitable from other scenes, and my experience so far has not been satisfying. That's why it's not a high priority for me personally at the moment. At least until I find the right tools.
There are a few other reasons, but those are the main ones. I hope I've been able to explain it in a way that's reasonably understandable.
In my latest video, which will be released on Halloween, there are again a few short ‘clone effects’. However, these are more accents, as in the Sugar video with Melanie. But I also plan to produce videos like “EP4” and ‘Summer Time Fun’ again, where the effect plays a major role.
EDIT: Regarding your last question.
My editing software is Davinci Resolve Studio, and the cloning is achieved using masking tools. This is often referred to as rotoscoping.
