  • New Here: General Questions

I’m brand new to SLR and to VR generally (just purchased a Meta Quest 3s). I therefore have some basic questions, and I apologize in advance if these are the wrong tags for this discussion. Four initial questions:

  1. Is there actually an SLR app for Quest? The website suggests that there is, but then directs you to download the DeoVR app.

  2. What is the advantage, if any, to using the DeoVR app vs. the website? I haven’t seen any, and in fact, some videos seem to have better quality straight from the site.

  3. Quality/clarity is important to me. How do you maximize quality? What “numbers” should I use in the settings? How do you know if you’re viewing something in 8K or something less? This is all new to me and I find I a bit overwhelming.

  4. Can you download videos directly to your headset? I see some comments that you need to download to a PC first and then transfer to the headset. It seems a bit convoluted.

Thanks to everyone for any guidance you can provide!

    1. DeoVR is THE app to use for SLR, i've been using it for over 2 years and it works great.

    2. Dunno what you're asking really. i use the desktop browser to look for scenes on my laptop sometimes, but i've never even tried using it on my quest 2 because the deoVR app works perfectly.

    3. When you click on a scene it will generally default to playing at the highest quality setting unless you purposely select a lower quality. the only setting i fiddle with is the tilt in order to get the action lined up with where my body is.

    4. I think you can try to download to the headset, but it's an enormous pain in the ass because the headset tries to turn itself off if you take it off your head and then the download just cancels completely and you have to start over and keep the headset on your face for like 30 minutes while it downloads. I gave up and just download on my laptop and then transfer the files to my headset with a cord.

Good luck sir and i recommend you look into trying the haptics with a stroker like the Handy because mixing VR porn with a hands-free haptic script is a mind blowing experience

KilgoreTrout76 on point 4, I'll suggest the approach I use. The rabbit hole is deep, but this is what I've found works best for me atleast:

      a. Download the high bit rate files 30+ mbps onto your pc/laptop. The higher the better.
      b. Install xbvr with these setup steps. https://discuss.eroscripts.com/t/xbvr-guide-host-your-own-video-funscript-streaming-with-images-previews-and-more/129740/2
      c. Install heresphere on quest and access the xbvr streamed files over your wifi.

If you go via the SLR app/browser route instead of downloads, it is limited to max 30mbps stream which works but won't get the full potential out of quest 3/3s.

Downloading onto headset directly has limitations of storage and making sure the downloads don't fail.

And it does appear convoluted especially step b and c(heresphere has a steep learning curve), but with some effort you'll realize it to be worth it.

HughMungus Thanks for taking the time to respond so thoroughly. Regarding downloading, I should have mentioned that I don’t have a laptop on which I’m comfortable downloading videos, so I will have to try it with my iPhone, which I imagine will be a whole adventure in and of itself. Also, very fundamentally, where do the downloaded videos appear on the Quest? Do I need some sort of app to view them? Thanks, and again, sorry for the basic questions.

alphaRonaldo Thank you. The haptics will likely be the next step for me, once I get my hands around everything else (pun intended).

KilgoreTrout76 I'm sorry, but i'm not really sure anymore. It's been over 2 years since i downloaded a scene and i can't remember how it all worked. I know their final destination for the DeoVR app is in the "Local Files" folder, but i don't remember how i got them there.

You can download on your computer and stream the files to your headset, you can use sky box vr for that. Deovr will stream from pc but it's difficult for me. Skybox simple

I use to download on my phone and pc, all files on my phone would get transferred to the pc as well and I'd stream using skyboxvr, and all you do is log into your computer in skybox and you have access too all your files, its the simple way imo when downloading.

But these days I just stream off deovr/slr.com

Downloading can become a problem, smh I ended up buying 2 extra hard drives TB size too, its gets stressful too. 🥴

But yeah, imo quest 3 + streaming off deovr = simplest, and have a good internet connection especially for the AR pass through porn, bro they in your bed bro on your lap! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

Welcome to the virtual world, your future has arrived bro! Have fun!

Click on the eye icon to use the AI pass through.

Vrsumo2017 Thanks for the advice and guidance! I’ve read about Skybox and may try that. I’m not sold on the passthrough feature quite yet. I’m still blown away by the complete immersive VR experience. Once that wears off, I’ll revisit the passthrough feature.

don't trouble yourself with downloading the videos to pc then streaming them from pc to headset.

I actually tried this using very high end laptop I borrowed from a friend and the streaming directly to the headset vs original quality videos downloaded to and streamed from pc looks almost the same to me on my quest 3.

the pc is a little bit sharper because these downloaded original videos have higher bitrate vs the streamed videos i believe.
if slr increased their streamed videos bitrate there will be no notable difference in quality.

what I want to say, it's not worth the trouble and inconvenience for a little bit sharper quality as of now. just enjoy the simplicity of the streaming directly to the headset! 🙂

filgan Thank you! I think certainly enjoy the streaming. My question about downloading was based on anticipating being n places without s WiFi connection or a slow connection (like in a hotel).
